'High priest' in the Bible
You shall put the two stones on the [two] shoulder pieces of the ephod [of the high priest], as memorial stones for Israel; and Aaron shall bear their names on his two shoulders as a memorial before the Lord.
"You are to make a breast piece to be worn by the high priest when he makes legal decisions. It is to be skillfully worked, made like the work of the ephod from gold, blue, purple, and scarlet material, and from fine woven linen.
"Aaron is to carry the names of Israel's sons on his heart on the breast piece to be worn by the high priest when he makes legal decisions, that is, whenever he goes into the Holy Place in order to remember them continuously in the LORD's presence.
In the breastpiece of judgment you shall put the Urim (Lights) and the Thummim (Perfections) [to be used for determining God’s will in a matter]. They shall be over Aaron’s heart whenever he goes before the Lord, and Aaron shall always carry the judgment (verdict, judicial decisions) of the sons of Israel over his heart before the Lord.
That son who is [high] priest in his place shall put them on [each day for] seven days when he comes into the Tent of Meeting to minister in the Holy Place.
the finely worked garments, the holy garments for Aaron the [high] priest and the garments for his sons to minister as priests,
the finely-woven garments for ministering in the Holy Place, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons, to minister as priests.’”
This is the sum of the things for the tabernacle, the tabernacle of the Testimony, as counted according to the command of Moses, for the work of the Levites, under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.
There was a bell and a pomegranate, then a bell and a pomegranate, all around the hem of the robe for when the High Priest ministered, just as the LORD commanded Moses.
"'If the high priest sins so that the people are guilty, on account of the sin he has committed he must present a flawless young bull to the Lord for a sin offering.
Then that high priest must take some of the blood of the bull and bring it to the Meeting Tent.
Then the high priest must bring some of the blood of the bull to the Meeting Tent,
The high priest who succeeds him from among his sons must do it. It is a perpetual statute; it must be offered up in smoke as a whole offering to the Lord.
Moses then put the breastpiece on Aaron, and he put in the breastpiece the Urim and the Thummim [the sacred articles the high priest used when seeking God’s will concerning the nation].
There shall be no person in the Tent of Meeting when the high priest goes in to make atonement in the Holy Place [within the veil] until he comes out, so that he may make atonement for himself (his own sins) and for his household and for all the congregation of Israel.
The priest who is anointed and ordained to serve as high priest in place of his father will make atonement. He will put on the linen garments, the holy garments,
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them:‘No one shall defile himself [that is, become ceremonially unclean] for the dead among his people [by touching a corpse or assisting in preparing it for burial],
"'He who is the high priest among his brothers, upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose, nor tear his clothes;
so that he will not profane or dishonor his children among his people; for I am the Lord who sanctifies the high priest.’”
The bread of the Presence shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a sacred place, for it is for Aaron a most holy portion of the offerings by fire to the Lord, his portion forever.”
This is the service of the families of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle); and their duties shall be under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron, the [high] priest.
This is the work of the families of the sons of Merari, according to all their tasks in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle), under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron, the priest.”
and he gave four carts and eight oxen to the sons of Merari, according to their service [in transporting the tabernacle], under the supervision of Ithamar the son of Aaron, the [high] priest.
But bring with you also your brothers, the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father (ancestor), so that they may join with you and serve you [as assistants], while you and your sons with you are before the Tent of the Testimony [the Holy Place where only priests may go, and the Most Holy Place which only the high priest may enter].
and the assembly shall rescue the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the assembly shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he had fled; and he shall abide in it until the death of the high-priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.
for the manslayer should have remained in the city of his refuge until the death of the high-priest; but after the death of the high-priest he may return into the land of his possession.
And you shall take no ransom for him who has fled to the city of his refuge, to return to live in the land until the death of the high priest.
And he shall dwell in that city, until he have stood before the assembly in judgment, until the death of the high-priest that shall be in those days; then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.
Gideon made [all the golden earrings into] an ephod [a sacred, high priest’s garment], and put it in his city of Ophrah, and all Israel worshiped it as an idol there, and it became a trap for Gideon and his household.

The chief Captain also took Seraiah the high priest, and Zephaniah that was chief next him, and the three keepers of the treasury.

And Jehovah doth stir up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people, and they come in, and do work in the house of Jehovah of Hosts their God,
'Speak, I pray thee, unto Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and unto Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, and unto the remnant of the people, saying:
And now, be strong, O Zerubbabel, An affirmation of Jehovah, And be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest, And be strong, all ye people of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah, And do ye -- (for I am with you, An affirmation of Jehovah of Hosts) --
And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing {before} the angel of Yahweh; and Satan was standing on his right to accuse him.
Listen, please, O Joshua the high priest, you and your companions that are sitting {before} you. For [the] men [are] a sign that, look, I [am] going to bring my servant [the] Branch.
Then he said, “These are the two sons of fresh oil [Joshua the high priest and Zerubbabel the prince of Judah] who are standing by the Lord of the whole earth [as His anointed ones].”
Take [the] silver and gold and make a crown, and set [it] on the head of Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest.
Then the chief priests and the rulers of the people came together in the house of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas.
And behold, one of those with Jesus extended his hand [and] drew his sword, and striking the slave of the high priest, cut off his ear.
Now those who had arrested Jesus led [him] away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered.
But Peter was following him from a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest. And he went inside [and] was sitting with the officers to see the outcome.
And the high priest stood up [and] said to him, "Do you reply nothing? What are these [people] testifying against you?"
But Jesus was silent. And the high priest said to him, "I put you under oath by the living God, that you tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God!"
Then the high priest tore his robes, saying, "He has blasphemed! What further need do we have of witnesses? Behold, you have just now heard the blasphemy!
Now while they were on their way, some of the guard went into the city and told the high priest all that had happened.
How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest, and took for food the holy bread, which only the priests may take, and gave it to those who were with him?
But a certain one of those who were near took out his sword, and gave the servant of the high priest a blow, cutting off his ear.
And they took Jesus away to the high priest; and there came together with him all the chief priests and those in authority and the scribes.
And Peter had come after him at a distance, even into the house of the high priest; and he was seated with the captains, warming himself in the light of the fire.
Now, the High-priest, and all the High-council, were seeking, against Jesus, testimony, with the intent to put him to death, - and were not finding any;
And neither so was their evidence sufficient. Then the high priest standing up in the midst,
And the high priest got up in the middle of them, and said to Jesus, Do you say nothing in answer? what is it which these say against you?
But he kept quiet and said nothing. Again the high priest questioning him said, Are you the Christ, the son of the Holy One?
And the high priest, violently parting his robes, said, What more need have we of witnesses?
And while Peter was down in the open square of the building, one of the servant-girls of the high priest came;
And, straightway, early, when they had made, a council, the High-priest, with the Elders, and Scribes, and all the High-council, binding Jesus, led him away, and delivered him up unto Pilate.
Then the high priest brought many accusations against him,
in the time of the high priest Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John the son of Zechariah in the wilderness.
The high priest and the Scribes continually sought means to put him to death.
And a certain one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his right ear.
And they seized him, and led him away , and brought him into the high priest's house. But Peter followed afar off.
But the high priest and scribes stood by, accusing Him vehemently.
"and how our high priest and ruler delivered him to be condemned to death and crucified him.
The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the high priest and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.
but one of them named Caiaphas, being the high priest at that time, said to them, ye don't know what you are about.
now this he did not say from his own motion: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation:
but Simon Peter drew his sword, and struck off the right ear of Malchus, a servant belonging to the high priest.
they brought him first to Annas; for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was the high priest at that time:
Simon Peter followed Jesus, with another disciple, who being known to the high priest, was admitted into his palace at the same time with Jesus,
whilst Peter stood without at the door. but that other disciple, who was known to the high priest went out, and spoke to her that kept the door, who let Peter in.
In the mean time, the high priest having question'd Jesus about his disciples, and his doctrine.
When He had said these things, one of the temple police standing by slapped Jesus, saying, “Is this the way you answer the high priest?”
Then Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
One of the high priest’s slaves, a relative of the man whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you with Him in the garden?”
Then when the high priest and officers saw Him, they cried out, Crucify Him, crucify Him. Pilate says to them, You take Him, and crucify Him: for I find nothing criminal in Him.
with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John and Alexander, and all the members of the high-priestly family.
Then the high priest took action. He and all his colleagues, those who belonged to the party of the Sadducees, were filled with jealousy.
